the flying luttenbachers – the truth is a fucking lie

they're loud. they're abrasive. they're the flying luttenbachers, a musical collective that started in 1991. its founder was  the then 18-year old walter weasel, a multi-instrumentalist and free jazz fanatic. other group members change frequently, which has mainly to do with weasel's high criteria of music and good music-making. at one point, he even dismissed all other group members, because he wasn't satisfied with the "group dynamics".
despite it all, the flying luttenbachers managed to release incredible (and weird) music,  stretching from free jazz to noise, no wave, punk and even metal (this is, at least, how they describe their work).
weasel walter is especially known for his numerous solo projects and collaborations with other groups (lake of dracula, xbxrx, to live & shave in l.a., deerhoof).

" ‘de futura’ is a cover of a song by the cult ‘70s prog band magma. it appears on the seventh flying luttenbachers release, 1998's "…the truth is a fucking lie" (skin graft). part jazz-funk explosion, part dizzying horn scree, and part vicious aural assault, the piece is performed by weasel walter on drums and trumpets, kurt johnson on bass guitar, and fred lonberg-holm on cello. the result is somewhere between a pit bull attack and a psychotic break, simultaneously eerie and enthralling."
